Ready To Friday: Cold Desserts Edition

Sometimes the week after your entire town loses the internet for a day, you move into your new apartment and can't get the internet working there either. That's just about all I can say about that.

It's hot. I'm exhausted. And there is no time to be bored.

The Edit

These here are the specific interests and perks of the weekly adventuring. Everything from tunes to articles or almost-lost files can be found below. Hopefully some of it will be recent, whereas some of it will be less so. But all of it I think is worth sharing with you; which is my gamble that you'll like it as much as I did.
  • Did you know that nearly one of every five Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim? I know, I really shouldn't start with "did you know", but until I saw the numbers, I wouldn't have believed it. It turns out the number have actually gone up since the President's inauguration, and I genuinely wonder "why". The Washington Post recently investigated this issue, but it's not too surprising that their conclusions seem to draw on the idea of "misinformation campaigns". Even after Obama was elected, it seem that the smearing has only escalated and gotten more radical as a result. I long for the days where Republicans were sane.
  • This recipe for Fry Bread is going to take over my life. The rest of this gives me some good ideas too, but just about everyone has flour, baking powder and salt, so there's really no excuse not to give this a try.
  • Or perhaps you might be interested in purchasing J. D. Sallinger's toilet, for one million dollars. I know what you're thinking, but come on, it has free shipping.
  • Esquire has a way of getting into these posts more often then I like to admit, but in terms of how much use I get from their publication, it might be an accurate proportion. Recently, they wrote up a series for Fall clothing, inspecting how best to dress using flannel, velvet and corduroy, noting their seasonal usefulness, aided with photographic examples. While the magazine may focus on the masculine side of things, I can't think of an example in their advice that could help any ladies shopping for the autumn months just as well.
  • ATTENTION: The following new story is parody and should be treated as such. Nevertheless, it's actually pretty factual, so I've heard.
  • Here is a a beautiful set a photos from the LA Times, with a beautiful headline.

Hearing Things

For my own reasons, I've decided to process the music appreciation of my weekly culture bomb into its own section. Hopefully this means you won't miss out on whatever I feel like highlighting here. But it also means it will be much more obvious when I don't have any musical suggestions.
Do you know who Cee-Lo Green is? If you don't: Maybe Gnarls Barkley is close enough? If you do: Congratulations, you're better in the know than I am! And you might have already seen/heard his new NSFR single (complete with a typographic music video), FUCK YOU! I'm enamored with this song. But maybe if your parents are around, you should whip out some headphones.
If that's not your thing - well you probably won't like this suggestion either. Fitz & The Tantrums is letting you check out their new album streaming on their website for free, since it's the hip thing to do these days. Since I've given them some word of mouth in the past, I figured I wouldn't wait to pass it along so you can get more of them immediately.

Blog of Our Lives

The blogs are the blood stream of my daily internet experience. They're the bread and butter of my clicks and links. Everything I know* I learned from the sources those bloggers provide. So here, I'll provide you with those sources that I have chosen to wrangle up for your benefit. Quality may rise and fall without warning. (*What do I know?)
  • Where Is The Cool sounds a lot like some other blogs I've taken notice of in the past. I guess I just like the idea of cool things, which I take no shame in. Regardless, this spot has it's own particular hook to trot, so check it out. The trend is photo blogging, but some are just inspired enough for me to recommend.
  • Nerd Boyfriend is more of a shopping list than a photo blog. Iconic men have their outfits dissected and reconstructed as accurately as possible using online stores, for your purchasing convenience. Absolutely essential.

English Language of the Week:

This segment is based around my personal love of the modern english language, where, each week, I'll nominate my favorite phrase, sentence or paragraph that I have personally heard spoken in that time.

Those aren't soulless eyes; those are taxidermy eyes.

Guest submission from Teryn Loebs.

On Your Way Out

I'm not prejudiced against the idea of posting these things in the day time on Friday, but I am reluctant to change. A more duplicitous version of myself might imply that the future holds the heightened possibility for improvement, but instead I will allude to the chance of more interesting things than Friday posts and that tumblr thing. Learning Experiences also worked out nicely. But think even more different.

Additionally, if you saw The Expendables for money, I don't like you.
If you saw Eat, Pray, Love, I don't know you.
And if you saw Scott Pilgrim vs The World, you probably made the right choice, but I haven't really decided yet.

No hard feelings, though.
